Nancy Sinatra: Pop's First Bad Girl

Before Nancy Sinatra, nice girls like Shelley Fabares and Lesley Gore sang pop songs about teenage heartbreak and young love.

Songs about kisses and holding hands.

But like I said, Frank's little girl came along and everything changed.

Nancy was no innocent teenager, she didn't give a damm about shy kisses in the moonlight. She was a grown woman and she was straight out singing about ...sex.

(GASP!!)

I know in this day and age the idea of women singing about sex isn't just the cliche, it's so overdone as to be almost painful. But Nancy was one of the first and, along with Tina Turner opened up what it was that women could sing about and ended the reign of the virgin pop star forever.

Take it away Nancy....
